About Bell Jar
Contact

Bell Jar is the trading name for Jo Bell. If it involves poetry and needs co-ordination, I do it. I work on regional and national projects, notably National Poetry Day for which I am the co-ordinator. If you're not sure whether you need me, contact me and we'll find out.

Current or recent projects include:

National Poetry Day - I'm the co-ordinator for NPD and currently helping to restructure, rebrand and relaunch it. We want everyone in the country reading poetry - and not just on October 4th! The theme this year is dreams - get in touch to find out more.

A Tale of Three Cities - Three cities, one Poet Laureate (Ian McMillan), six commissioned writers, one huge competition, one anthology to edit and publish, £50,000.  One co-ordinator: that would be me, then.

Poet in Residence for the World Canals Conference and a National Trust conference. This is one of the most effective and unexpected uses of poetry.  Use poetry to entertain, provoke, stimulate and above all make a large group of people gel. You'll be amazed.

Radio and TV - for instance short pieces on BBC Radio Derby illustrated special places with contemporary poems. Celebrate Father's Day, have a phone-in on a topical subject....

Community work - for instance working with Women's Aid to foster new writing by domestic abuse victims.

Editing and publication - of magazines or anthologies, often with those clever people at Cub publishing. For instance we produced the first issue of creative writing magazine Tripod together.

Boat workshops - Workshops on narrowboats are a Bell Jar speciality. We've done them in Nottingham, Birmingham, Macclesfield and London. Get people writing from a new perspective.

Poet in Virtual Residence - for instance at peakdistrictonline.co.uk in 2006.  Writing from place and landscape is a key theme in the Bell Jar programme, following the ethos of Common Ground and other organisations.

Ledbury Poetry Festival - the foremost poetry festival in the UK, presenting the best and widest range of living poets in a wonderful setting. I'm a Trustee and always involved somewhere.

Inspiration days - occasional gatherings of performance poets, artists, venue managers, literature professionals and a few random geniuses. The agenda is - 'Enjoy, create, collaborate'.

If you need a high standard of professional work (or if you're not at all sure what you need but you think I might be) get in touch.
